About Dr. Clater
Dr. Michelle Clater joined the Maranatha Fine Arts faculty in 2009 after completing work for her PhD in Music Theory from Indiana University. She earlier earned a BA in Humanities at Clearwater Christian College (graduating summa cum laude in 2002) and an MA in Music Theory and Music History from Penn State (also graduating summa cum laude in 2004). She has extensive teaching experience as well. Dr. Clater worked as a teaching assistant at Penn State and an associate instructor and coordinating associate instructor at Indiana. She also supervised graduate assistants and taught private lessons to intermediate and advanced piano students. Dr. Clater has been a presenter and workshop leader at the Alpha Chi National Honor Society Regional Conference, the Indiana Theory Colloquium, and the Keystone Christian Education Association Teacher Education Conference.
Personal
The Harrisburg, Pa., native accepted Christ at age 5 during an evangelistic meeting at her church. She was baptized at age 10 and has been active in music ministries from a young age. She loves accompanying and reading, as well as outdoor activities such as gardening and hiking.

“My favorite part of teaching at Maranatha is the opportunities I have to teach and live out my faith, both in and out of the classroom. I have been blessed by the many mentoring opportunities to guide and encourage my students academically and spiritually.”
Ministry
Dr. Clater is active in the music ministry at Calvary Baptist Church. She sings in the choir and accompanies soloists and small groups.
