Alumni Return for Artist Series

Three of Maranatha’s most accomplished Music Department graduates return to campus Feb. 10 for the annual Artist Series concert.

Conductor and violinist Daniel Brier, hornist Teresa Herbert, and vocalist and pianist Christin Kieckhafer will combine their talents in a performance for students and the general public at 7 p.m. in the college gymnasium. They will perform works by Corigliano, Part, Brahms, and Strauss as well as folk songs and hymn arrangements.

Daniel BrierDaniel Brier (’07) is the assistant conductor of the University of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and the University of Kentucky Opera Theater, the cover conductor of the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, and a member of the Lexington Community Orchestra conducting staff. He is also a violinist in the Verdi String Quartet. Brier recently completed his master’s degree in music and conducting at the University of Michigan. In 2010, he was awarded a prize for exceptional conducting during the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic Masterclass in St. Petersburg, Russia. Brier is scheduled to travel to Paris in January of 2012 to study Maestro John Nelson’s work with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris.

Teresa HerbertTeresa Herbert (’05) teaches music and band at Woodcrest Baptist Academy in Fridley, MN, and maintains a private studio in the Twin Cities. She is the principal horn player for the Bloomington Civic Theatre and plays in several other groups—Encore Wind Ensemble, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Minneapolis Brass, Accent Brass, and West Bank Winds. Herbert earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Maranatha and master’s degree in Horn at the University of Minnesota. She has performed abroad in South Africa, Peru, Brazil, India, and Canada.

Christin KieckhaferChristin Kieckhafer (’08) is the choral director for Slinger Middle School in Slinger, WI, where the choral program has grown from 110 students to more than 200 in two years. She also serves as vocal coach and head accompanist for musicals at Slinger High School. Kieckhafer is pursuing a master’s degree in music education from Boston University, has studied vocal performance and pedagogy at Westminster Choir College, and plans to obtain certifications in Gordon’s Music Learning Theory and Opera Studies. She also arranges sacred piano accompaniments for an evangelistic team.
