Advances in electronics have opened new doors of service and security for our students. The Alumni National Project for 2011-12, the Service and Security Campaign, will help fund the purchase of a security and attendance system that utilizes digital proximity cards.
Students will use these new ID cards to gain access through new electronic door locks on all residence halls. The wireless system will also register chapel attendance as well as attendance in large lecture hall classes.
The system will add security to our campus, save hundreds of man-hours for the Student Life Office, and make life easier for students who regularly need to enter their dorm after hours. Security guards will no longer need to unlock dorm entry doors for students. Each student’s ID can be programmed to match his or her regular schedule.
The true cost is still being finalized, but will be about $100,000. More than $13,000 has already been given by donors outside of the Alumni Association. The Alumni National Project will attempt to raise $20,000 toward the purchase of this system.
As alumni, you can imagine the value to students. Gaining peace of mind from added security and avoiding the hassle of manually checking in will add convenience to students’ busy lives.
