The 2012 Crusaders will look a little different from last year’s squad, starting with the departure of leading goal-scorer Karis Rogers, but the team’s new players are already contributing heavily.
Sophomore Jocelyn Enrique transferred from the University of Hawaii and shows good ball control in the midfield. She will pair with Katie Foy and Allison Steinhaus to form a skilled and intelligent midfield.
Last year, Foy tied for third on the team in goals (4), assists (3), and points (11).
Steinhaus has also displayed scoring potential and overall knowledge of the game, and forwards Olivia Doerstling and Taylor Thompson bring speed to the team.
Alysha Morris leads the defense, along with newcomers Kaitlyn Rygh and Harmony Lorch, and Ginny Martin starts at the goalkeeper position. Freshman Michala Marino might press Martin for time in the net as the season progresses.
The team adds depth with returning players Merriellen (Roth) Stevens, Michelle Roth, and Karilyn Sheaffer.
Maranatha sets its sights on another NCCAAII Midwest Regional Championship appearance after last year’s 1-0 loss in the regional championship game and will need players such as Foy, Enrique, and Steinhaus to carry the team.
