SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Lakeland put together a pair of dominating performances over the Crusaders, winning 10-0 and 12-2 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
The Muskies compiled a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning, enough to keep Maranatha out of contention. The Crusaders did manage to string together seven hits, but failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Junior pitcher Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) went six innings, allowing 11 hits and eight earned runs for the loss.
It took Maranatha less hits in the second game to put somebody across home plate as they managed two runs off five hits and even held a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
A double by Borchardt started the second inning and a sacrifice RBI by Derek Funkhouser (Paris, Ill.) gave Maranatha their first lead of the day.
Lakeland stole the lead in the third inning, and allowed Maranatha to get as close as 3-2 on another double by Borchardt that scored junior infielder Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.).
Craig Lawson (0-2) pitched five innings, allowing 10 hits, 10 runs and eight earned runs for the loss.
Borchardt finished the day 2-3 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI.
Maranatha faces Edgewood in a rainout makeup on Tuesday, April 3 at 3:00 p.m. in Watertown.
