WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Maranatha Crusaders fell 17-7 and 9-4 to the Mount Mary Blue Angels on Thursday afternoon in Watertown.
The Angels had a huge first inning in game one, scoring 10 runs on six hits. Maranatha responded with three runs off two RBI’s by Susie Prusak (Leesburg, Va.) and Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.).
The ladies couldn’t ultimately keep pace with Mount Mary, who hammered out three runs in the second and four runs in the fourth.
The two teams combined for 27 total hits in the game. Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) pitched five innings, allowing 18 hits and eight earned runs for the loss.
Junior Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) went 2-3 with an RBI while DeLozier finished a perfect 2-2 with an RBI from the plate.
In game two, sophomore pitcher Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) held Mount Mary to a 2-0 lead until the fifth inning, when the Blue Angels scored four runs.
It only took the next inning for the Crusaders to respond with three runs, one coming on a single RBI by Prusak to cut the deficit to 6-3.
Sophomore outfielder Leila Dineen’s sacrifice RBI drew Maranatha one run closer, but Mount Mary ended the game in the seventh with three runs.
Ryan (4-6) pitched seven innings, allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs while striking out five.
Prusak and junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) went 2-4 and 2-3 respectively.
The Crusaders face Alverno on Friday April 13, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Watertown.
