RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Playing their third game in three days, the Crusaders fell flat in a 66-47 loss to the Cougars of Concordia Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars pounced on Maranatha in the first half, opening up a 19-3 lead while a fatigued Crusader team struggled with turnovers.
The Crusaders entered halftime down 36-12, but came out in the second half with greater resolve by cutting the lead to 13 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.).
That was the closest Maranatha would come before the Cougars shot back to a 20 point lead, sealing the victory.
Junior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) finished with eight points and nine rebounds, while freshman center Brett Cashner (Urbana, Ill.) totaled nine points and six rebounds.
The Crusaders will take advantage of a few days’ rest before taking on Northland International Tuesday, February 7at home at 7:15 p.m.
