LISLE, Ill. – The Crusaders were down 40-35 at the half before shooting their way to a 73-68 victory over the Benedictine Eagles Saturday afternoon in Lisle, Ill.
The Eagles and Crusaders exchanged leads through the first 10 minutes of the game, but Benedictine reclaimed a 23-20 lead, and maintained it into halftime.
Maranatha built as large as an eight point lead in the second half on a layup by sophomore center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.), but the Eagles soared back to tie it 61-61 with 2:28 minutes left in the game.
On the ensuing possession, junior guard Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) continued her knack for hitting late shots by dropping a three-pointer for a 64-61 lead.
Benedictine’s Michelle Gaede hit a jumper to cut the deficit to 64-63, but the Eagles were pick-pocketed twice in the last minute by Peotter and junior forward Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.).
Peotter and junior guard Kristin Morrison (Jefferson, Wis.) put the lead out of reach for good on free throw shots.
The Crusaders shot 52% from field goal range and 57% from beyond the arc.
Morrison was one of five Crusaders in double-digits with 18 points. Peterson continued her dominance by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and swatting away nine shots.
Junior guard Hallie Nelson shot 50% from three-point range for 12 points.
Maranatha moves on to face Edgewood at home on Thursday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m.
