WATERTOWN, WI – The men’s soccer team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 3-0 shutout on a humid Thursday afternoon against the Beloit College Buccaneers.

The Crusaders came out firing with four shots in the first six minutes with a goal by sophomore forward Tim Rogers (Willmar, MN) that was disallowed because of an offside, but junior midfielder Taylor Pill (Watertown, WI) punched in a goal off a free kick for a 1-0 lead at the 13th minute.

Pill, who found the upper left corner of the net over the outstretched arms of the Beloit goalkeeper, finished with six shots, three on goal.

In the next 11 minutes, Maranatha posted five more shots on net before freshman forward Wira Wama, (Papua New Guinea) juked around several swarming defenders and found a wide open Jeremy Knudsen (Charlotte, N.C.) for a 2-0 lead just before the end of the first half.

The tempo slowed down in the second half with four shots spread out over the next 25 minutes, but at the 71st minute, senior midfielder Brian Lundquist (Reading, MA) was fouled in the penalty box, and as the keeper dove right, Lundquist went left for the final goal, and a 3-0 win.

Senior forward Mitchell Holley (Watertown, WI) also had a chance late in the game that sailed just over the crossbar, as the team finished with 23 shots, 11 on net.

Lundquist now leads the team with four goals and eight points while Pill is second at three goals and one assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexander, Kornivsky (Charlotte, N.C.), didn’t face any shots in his second win of the season, improving to 2-1 overall.
