WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusaders dropped a key match against Marian in a 3-2 loss. The win combined with a Wisconsin Lutheran loss would have catapulted the Crusaders into fourth place in the NAC and the right to host the first game next Tuesday.
The team took game one after spotting Marian an 8-4 lead, but came back to win 25-15. Marian defeated the Crusaders in set two but the Crusaders rebounded to claim set three with a 25-15 win.
With a 2-1 lead, the Crusaders struggled to gel as a team committing costly errors while Marian ran away with set four, 25-17.
The set five showdown did not start well for the Crusaders with two errors. Marian opened an 8-4 lead that Maranatha could never catch as they cruised to a 15-7 victory.
Junior hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.) posted 27 kills, 18 digs and three blocks (one solo) while sophomore blocker Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) managed 18 kills and eight blocks (two solo).
The match against Marian concludes the 2011 regular season as Maranatha moves on to the Regional Tournament hosted by the Crusaders.
Maranatha will play Friday at 6:30 p.m. Should they win, the Crusaders will move into the Finals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
