Crusaders Fall To Rams, Garrison Reaches 100th Hit

COON RAPIDS, Minn. – The Crusaders defeated Lincoln Christian 4-3 in an elimination game, but watched their bid for an NCCAAII World Series disappear with a 3-0 loss to North Central.

Maranatha held a 3-2 lead in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.), but Lincoln pushed back, tying the game in the sixth inning.

The game remained scoreless until Borchardt (2-4) delivered the winning run in the ninth inning, this time off a bases loaded walk that scored Mike Dean (Brookfield, Wis.).

Senior pitcher Nathan Lyle (Oregon, Wis.) tossed six innings, allowing three runs, while Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) came in relief, allowing no runs to help secure the win.

In what turned out to be their final game of the Regional Tournament against the Rams, sophomore pitcher Tim Shelp (Independence, Mo.) pitched five solid innings, allowing three runs for the loss.

The team had a chance at a comeback in the seventh inning, but ended the game with the bases loaded. Junior Craig Lawson (Independence, Mo.) went 2-3 at the plate while the team outhit North Central 7-5.

Senior second baseman Jason Garrison (Watertown, Wis.) reached a milestone in his career, with his 100th hit in four seasons.

Garrison also ranks third in the NAC against NAC opponents with eight stolen bases.

Shelp, Garrison and Borchardt each were selected to the All-Region Team.
