WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha defeated a pesky Alverno squad in a straight-set sweep. Alverno kept right in every game and made the Crusaders prove their worth.
In the first set junior hitter Torey DeLozier and sophomore hitter Lacie Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) boosted Maranatha’s lead to 9-4.
Alverno would creep back into the set until finally tying it at 21 apiece. The Crusaders broke that tie with a 25-23 win.
Set two also began with a 9-4 lead before Alverno cut it to 10-7. Several errors committed during the middle of the set allowed Alverno to inch closer, but DeLozier would not allow any further comeback, notching a decisive kill to end the set.
The Crusaders once again had a difficult time putting away Alverno with a 10-4 lead, closed the game 25-19.
DeLozier finished with 23 kills and performed well on defense with 19 digs. Peterson contributed 10 kills and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Schulz (Lake Mills, Wis.) totaled 5 kills and a block.
Maranatha hosts Marian for their last regular season matchup for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
