FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Marian Sabres didn’t need a high scoring attack to defeat the Crusaders on Tuesday, shooting an efficient 47% from the field, and holding the Crusaders to 37 points in a 56-37 win.
Maranatha struggled finding a rhythm offensively, shooting 26% from the field and scoring only 14 points in the first half to Marian’s 27.
The closest the Crusaders came to Marian in the second half was a three-pointer by junior guard Matt Hunter (Pontiac, Ill.) to cut the lead to 34-22.
The deficit went back up to as much as 26 points on a jumper by Marian’s Mike Keller with seven minutes in the game, before Marian dropped Maranatha to 4-19 on the season.
Junior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) shot 5-8 from the field for 11 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Kyle Kutz (Cambridge, Wis.) had seven points and three rebounds.
Maranatha moves on to face NCCAAII Midwest Region opponent, Lincoln Christian in Lincoln, Ill. on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
