WATERTOWN, Wis. — A three-week absence from basketball was not enough to slow down the Crusaders, who cruised to an 87-35 win over the Kuyper Cougars on Thursday evening to improve to 7-1 overall.
Maranatha jumped out to a 10-3 early lead, and continued the onslaught by shooting 64.7% from the field in the first period and 52% for the game.
Senior guard Hallie Sheley (Rockford, Ill.) had her biggest game of the season, finishing with 23 points on 10-15 field goal shooting, and chipped in five steals and three assists.
Freshman guard Stacy Reinke (Clintonville, Wis.) also had a solid game off the bench with 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
On defense, Maranatha out-rebounded the Cougars, 59-37 and held their opponent to 15% from the field.
Junior center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) finished with seven blocks in 18 minutes of action, with multiple reserves receiving a bulk of the minutes.
Maranatha has a chance to improve to 5-1 in the NAC on Saturday, January 5 at 2:00 p.m. against Wisconsin Lutheran in Watertown.
