Crusaders Remain Unbeaten, Defeat Edgewood Eagles

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusaders displayed their ability to compete at a high level in the NAC on Tuesday night by defeating the Edgewood Eagles 3-0.

The Crusaders had their work cut out in the first set, spotting the Eagles a 9-6 lead before tying the game at 14 and jumping ahead to an 18-14 lead on a kill by junior hitter Torey DeLozier (Watertown, Wis.). Maranatha clinched the first set, 25-22.

In set two, Edgewood again jumped out to a 7-4 lead, but DeLozier served up three aces in a row to put Maranatha on top, 16-15. The rest of the set never strayed beyond a two-point differential and came down to the wire as senior libero Hallie Sheley (Watertown, Wis.) delivered the 25-23 victory on a service ace.

The third set was once again close early at 6-6, but Maranatha gained control with an 18-15 lead and finishing with a 7-0 run to win 25-15.

The team played consistent and smart volleyball with quality plays coming from the entire team, including young players Samantha Swiatek (Walled Lake, Mich.) and outside hitter Stacy Reinke (Clintonville, Wis.).

DeLozier finished with 13 kills, six digs and two block assists while junior hitter Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) reeled in 11 kills and five blocks (one solo).

The Crusaders travel to Rockford, Ill. on Thursday, September 13, to face the Regents at 7:00 p.m.
