Crusaders Set For Region Championship Rematch Against Northland

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women’s soccer team advanced to the NCCAAII Midwest Region Championship match with a 5-1 win over Lincoln University on Friday afternoon.

The Crusaders advance to the NCCAAII Midwest Region Championship Match against a familiar foe, Northland International. Last year, the women’s team lost 1-0 in a shootout after two overtimes.

Maranatha rebounded from a sloppy first half, despite leading 1-0, scoring four goals in the second, two coming from senior midfielder Allison Steinhaus (Winston Salem, N.C.).

Midfielder Katie Foy (Columbia City, Ind.), and forwards Olivia Doerstling (Lantana, Texas) and Taylor Thompson (Bristol, Wis.) each had a goal apiece, and the team outshot Lincoln 34-5.

Lincoln’s Jessica Hoskins scored at the 76th minute, and Crusader goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, Mich.) finished with three saves to improve to notch her third win of the season.
