Crusaders To Play At U.S. Cellular Field

Maranatha-Baseball-V.-Concordia-_64Maranatha’s 2012-13 baseball season now includes a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on a Major League Baseball field.

The Crusaders are scheduled to play a single game against the Illinois Institute of Technology May 7 at 3 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox.

“The opportunity to play at a major league stadium is a thrill for our players to experience,” Maranatha head coach Gary Garrison said. “When we played at the Metrodome in Minneapolis four years ago, the players reminisced for a long time.  I expect the same following our game at U.S. Cellular Field.

“This will give our players something to strive for near the end of our season (just prior to the NCCAA World Series). It will also contribute to our recruitment of future Maranatha baseball players.”

U.S. Cellular Field, located on Chicago’s south side, opened in 1991. It was built directly across the street from old Comiskey Park. Its seating capacity is 40,615.

Illinois Tech is located just one block north of U.S. Cellular Field. The Scarlet Hawks were 5-32 overall in 2012,

Admission is free. For driving directions to the field, please visit this link. The CTA Red Line elevated train also stops near the ballpark. Visit this link for details on public transportation.
