WATERTOWN, Wis. – Maranatha took home it’s second NAC win on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Edgewood 3-1 but falling 13-10 in game two.

Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey (Bath, Mich.) stifled the Eagle’s offense in game one, pitching seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out four.

Edgewood had an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but it was outfielder Torey DeLozier’s double that keyed a three-run third inning.

Junior outfielder Autumn Peotter (Waupaca, Wis.) had a triple RBI in the inning and sophomore shortstop Rosa Lewis (Yates City, Ill.) also had an RBI off a single.

Three runs were all that was needed as Dempsey did the rest, advancing Maranatha to 7-18 overall and improving her record to 3-10.

Edgewood appeared to have put game two out of reach by leading 10-0 after the fourth inning, but Maranatha scratched its way to an 11-8 deficit by posting six runs in the fifth inning.

The Crusaders batted through the lineup and had five hits in the inning.

Trailing 13-9 in the bottom of the seventh, junior catcher Sadie Joutras (Crest Hill, Ill.) singled and later advanced home on an error to draw Maranatha to within three.

That was the closest they came as Lewis popped up to second base to end the game.

The Crusaders finished with 13 hits in the game as Peotter and Dempsey each went 3-4. Dempsey also finished with two RBI’s.

Sophomore pitcher Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and striking out four before being replaced by Dempsey.

The Crusaders are at Benedictine on Friday, April 20 at 3:00 p.m.
