Knights Topple Crusaders

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Crusader were upended by the Martin Luther Knights in a 36-12 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights outgained the Crusaders in total yards, 338-191, scoring on four of their seven trips to the end zone.

The first came eight minutes into the game on a four-yard rush and a failed two-point conversion to put Martin Luther ahead, 6-0.

The next Knight score came at the beginning of the second quarter on a 10-yard pass, boosting the lead to 12-0.

Maranatha didn’t hit pay dirt until the beginning of the fourth quarter, when sophomore running back Jordan DeLay (Flint, Mich.) rushed two yards to put Maranatha on the board, 36-6.

On their next possession, freshman quarterback Brandon McCormick (Edwards, Ill.) connected with receiver Joel Kobosh (Lake Mills, Wis.) down the sideline on a 57-yard bomb, cutting the deficit to 36-12.

Maranatha remained scoreless the rest of the game, but came away with 137 yards passing and a TD by McCormick in his first collegiate start.

Kobosh finished with 69 yards receiving and a TD and on defense, senior linebacker Ethan Lane (Atlanta, Ga.) racked up 19 total tackles and three sacks.

Senior linebacker Bobby O’Brien also contributed 14 tackles and two and a half sacks.

Maranatha looks to improve against Trinity Bible in Ellendale, N.D., next Saturday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m.
