MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Victory slipped the grasp of the Crusaders, who lost in overtime on Tuesday night to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors, 72-66.
Maranatha bolted out of the gates with a 20-3 lead, before the Warriors chipped their way into the game, down 26-19 headed into the half.
In the second half, the Warriors passed the Crusaders, and held a small lead for most of the game. The Warrior’s lead would become even smaller in the waning minutes.
That lead decreased to 57-56, before the Warriors hit two free throws to give them a three point, 59-56 cushion.
On the next possession, freshman guard Tanner Moses (Lodi, Wis.) tore through that cushion with a three-point dagger, lifting his team to a 59-59 tie with 23 seconds left.
In the extra period, Maranatha kept it close by trailing 64-63 with 3:09 left, but the Warriors came away the victor after guard Tim Demuth hit a three, putting the lead out of reach for the Crusaders.
Moses finished with 18 points, and was 12-16 from the free-throw line.
Junior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while sophomore forward Kyle Kutz (Cambridge, Wis.) was 3-5 from three-point range for nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.
The Crusaders hope to capture that elusive win at Concordia Wisconsin on Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m.
