WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Lady Crusaders waited until the waning seconds of the game to win 54-53, upsetting the #2 Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Saturday afternoon.
A layup with 12.4 seconds left in the game by sophomore center Laci Peterson (Chillicothe, Ill.) was the shot the Crusaders needed to lift them to an improbable win.
Down 30-22 at the half, Maranatha stormed back with a 25-7 run at 8:24 left in the half. The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to tie the game at 45 apiece with six minutes left.
The Falcons built a 53-47 cushion, before Peterson knocked down a three-pointer, while junior guard Kristin Morrison (Jefferson, Wis.) followed up with a layup to bring the Crusaders within one.
Maranatha capitalized on the next possession, with Concordia turning the ball over on an inbounds pass.
It was Peterson who converted on the play, putting the Crusaders up for good in a big NAC win, improving their overall record to 13-9, and 7-9 in the NAC.
Peterson finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Morrison was 3-6 from the field for 11 points and six rebounds.
The Crusaders finish the season on Monday at home against Alverno at 7:00 p.m.
