WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Maranatha Crusader mens basketball took a 71-56 loss on Tuesday evening to the Marian Sabres.
Coming off a close loss to Rockford in overtime that ended their three-game winning streak, the Saders wasted little time with an opening three by senior guard Matthew McGivern (Milwaukee, Wis.).
Maranatha kept pace with Marian, tying the game twice before the Sabres found breathing room in a seven-point lead.
The Sabres stretched that lead to 13 with a minute left to play, but Maranatha responded, scoring seven points in the final minute of the half for a 32-26 deficit.
The second half proved too much for the Crusaders, who held Marian to single-digits until a three boosted the lead to twelve at 13:01.
Maranatha’s best efforts came up short in the end, succumbing to Marian’s 52% field goal shooting and 80% free-throw shooting.
Senior forward Joel Borchardt (Watertown, Wis.) led Maranatha with 14 total points, while McGivern tacked on 11.
