‘Saders Score Five In Doublheader Loss To Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Although the Crusaders were held scoreless in a game one 20-0 loss to Dominican on Friday afternoon, the team bounced back with five runs in a 13-5 game two loss in River Forest, Ill.

Dominican scored in all seven innings, including a seven-run third and limited Maranatha to three hits. The ‘Saders reached third base in the sixth inning with freshman shortstop Timothy Rogers (Willmar, Minn.) beginning the inning with a double to left center.

Rogers advanced to third before sophomore right fielder Caleb Rost (Greenville, S.C.) struck out to end the inning.

Senior pitcher Garett Ordway (Pensacola, Fla.) pitched five innings, allowing 13 hits for the loss while freshman John Coleman (Huntingdon, Pa.) pitched one inning of relief, allowing one hit and two runs, two unearned.

In game two, Maranatha jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with three hits, one, a single by Ordway, started the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Galen Balinski (Mountainhome, Pa.) singled to bring in Ordway, and freshman Cody Borland (Oakley, Ca.) also had an RBI that scored Rost.

The Stars, meanwhile, began their first at-bat with two quick outs, then reached third base before Balinski forced a groundout to end the inning.

Dominican would capitalize in the second inning with four runs and would hold an 8-2 lead entering the fifth inning.

Maranatha bounced right back though with two runs of their own on a two-out rally, with two RBI’s from Rogers on a single to left field.

The Crusaders added their last run in the top of the sixth when senior Derek Funkhouser (Paris, Ill.) doubled, then scored on a groundout by senior catcher Andy Timblin (Muscoda, Ill.).

Rogers each finished 2-4 and Borland went 3-5 while Balinski pitched seven out of the eight innings, allowing 11 hits and nine earned runs for the loss.

Maranatha moves on to face Aurora University at home at 4:30 p.m. at Washington Park.
