CHICAGO, IL – Playing their third game in three days, the women’s team succumbed to the Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday, dropping to 6-6 on the season after a 4-0 loss to the Scarlet Hawks in an evening game.
The Crusaders played MSOE on Thursday, won against Ohio Christian in a double-overtime thriller on Friday, 3-2, but ran out of juice against the Scarlet Hawks, who posted 30 shots, 18 on goal while Maranatha tallied five shots.
Four of the five shots came from freshman and junior midfielders Courtney Dunn (Oshkosh, WI) and Harmony Lorch (Aurora, CO) as each had a shot on goal. Freshman forward Emily Hinsenkamp (Harrison TWP, MI), who buried the game-winning goal against Ohio Christian on Friday, also posted a shot.
The Crusader defense held IIT scoreless for 35 minutes before Adriana Maron scored an unassisted goal at 35:38. All three remaining goals came in the second half at the 50, 70 and 81 minute marks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, MI) held her own against the Scarlet attack with 14 saves in 90 minutes of action, for a 6-6 record on the season.
Maranatha will recharge before facing NACC opponent, Rockford University, at home on Monday, October 14 at 3:30 p.m.
