AURORA, Ill. – The Aurora Spartans took control on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Maranatha Crusaders 9-1 and 13-2.
Aurora bounced back in the second inning with four runs on four hits and held Maranatha to three total hits in the game.
Freshman pitcher Jana Dempsey went 5.1 innings, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs for the loss.
Joutras and Peotter each finished 1-3 at the plate.
Aurora was the first to score in game two, putting three runs past the Crusaders in the first inning. Junior Susie Prusak (Leesburg, Va.) knocked in a run on a single RBI in the second inning to cut the deficit to 3-1.
It would not last long as Aurora had big innings in the second and third, posting four and six runs respectively.
Maranatha’s other run came on another single, this time by Dempsey, whose hit brought junior Torey DeLozier home.
Rachel Ryan (Nampa, Idaho) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing 10 hits for the loss.
The team did have six hits as Dempsey and Prusak each went 1-2.
Maranatha moves on to face Mount Mary in an away game at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23.
