WATERTOWN, Wis. – Aurora overpowered the Crusaders, scoring all their points in the first half in a 55-14 rout on Saturday afternoon.
Aurora struck fast, scoring on a drive that took six plays for 61 yards in a span of 2:44. The Spartans would score on three out of their next four possessions to carry a 27-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Aurora added four more touchdowns in the second quarter for an insurmountable 55-0 halftime lead.
Maranatha caught a break coming out of the half as freshman linebacker Kevin Dunford (Pulaski, Wis.) recovered an Aurora fumble on the opening kickoff.
Four plays later, Brandon McCormick (Edwards, Ill.) converted the turnover into a 10-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Joseph Manion (Watertown, Wis.), and tight end Josh Foster (Flushing, Mich.) caught the two-point conversion for a 55-8 score.
Linebacker Ethan Lane (Atlanta, Ga.) delivered the second touchdown after intercepting a pass, and scoring on a two-yard scamper near the end of the fourth quarter.
Aurora outgained Maranatha 442-120 in total offensive yards while the defense recorded five sacks, and intercepted McCormick three times.
Manion finished with 48 yards receiving and a touchdown, while sophomore linebacker Ethan Kennon (Raleigh, N.C.) finished with 20 tackles and a sack.
Lane notched 16 tackles and senior linebacker Bobby O’Brien (Sauk Centre, Minn.) notched 11 tackles.
Maranatha travels to Concordia-Wisconsin on Saturday, October 6 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
