RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Dominican Stars shot 56% from the field and nearly 80% from the free-throw line en route to an 87-66 win over the Maranatha Crusaders on Saturday afternoon.
Dominican carried a lead for almost the entire game, starting at 12-7 to open the period. A three-pointer by senior guard Matthew McGivern (Milwaukee, Wis.) cut the deficit to 15-14.
Maranatha shot well in the first period, going 13-25—52% from the field. Sophomore Brett Cashner (Urbana, Ill.) scored 11 of his 22 points in the first period, going 5-7 as the team trailed 45-36 at halftime.
The second half belonged to Dominican, as the Stars built as many as a 25-point lead and held a 38-22 advantage in paint points.
The Crusaders received solid play from McGivern, who finished with 13 points, five assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Maranatha looks for their third win of the season against MSOE on Tuesday, January 15 in Watertown, Wis. at 7:00 p.m.
