Volleyball Wraps Up Classic, Sweeps Grace, OCU

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A day after defeating the Emmaus Eagles on Friday, senior Laci Peterson and the Crusaders blitzed opponents, Grace Bible and Ohio Christian on Saturday with 3-0 wins apiece, at the Grace Bible College Classic in Grand Rapids, MI.

The 6-0 middle blocker out of Chillicothe, IL led Maranatha with 35 kills in two games for a 5.8 kills per set average and even threw in eight blocks to go with it.

In the match against Grace Bible, Peterson had 17 kills on a .467 attack percentage while putting up bigger numbers against Ohio Christian, with 18 kills, a .441 attack percentage, six blocks (two solo) and nine digs. The team’s offense finished with a .329 attack percentage against Ohio Christian and .291 against Grace.

Notching her first big minutes of the season, freshman setter Julia Gunst (Neosho, WI), tallied 15 assists against Grace while junior Pam Borchardt (Watertown, WI), recorded 14.

Sophomore libero Sam Swiatek (Walled Lake, MI) had 27 digs in two games, while the team finished with 56 digs against Grace.

Maranatha looks to improve upon their 17-8 overall and 11-0 record in the NCCAAII with a matchup against Finlandia at home, on Saturday, October 19 at 4:00 p.m. for Parent’s Day.
