MILWAUKEE, WI – The 4-1 Alverno Inferno (NACC) outlasted the Crusaders on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon, posting 14 shots in a 2-0 shutout of the women’s soccer team.
After an opening shot on goal by sophomore midfielder Harmony Lorch (Aurora, CO) that was turned away by the Inferno keeper, Alverno sailed three shots wide of the net before scoring at the 13th minute on a header from Samantha Devcich for the 1-0 lead.
Maranatha followed up with shots on net from freshman forwards Natascha Vinz (Sheboygan, WI) and Bethany Wright (Watertown, WI) before the end of the first period.
In the second period, shots were taken by sophomore forward Olivia Doerstling (Lantana, TX) and junior defender Alyson Dunn (Oshkosh, WI), but Alverno struck again with Devcich’s second goal of the game and seventh of the season at the 78th minute.
Sophomore goalkeeper Michala Marino (Grand Blanc, MI) played the full 90 minutes, finishing with four saves for a 2-3 season record.
Out of Maranatha’s seven shots in the game, six were on net, coming from six different players. Maranatha’s next game is an away game on Monday, September 23 against Faith Baptist Bible College of Ankeny, IA at 2:00 p.m.
