More than 100 guests registered for the annual Business Community Breakfast that took place August 16, 2011, in the Dining Complex. Local business leaders who attended learned the value of hiring hard-working Maranatha students and became more familiar with the College’s many community service activities.
The guests represented 45 different business entities. Diversey Inc., which provides commercial cleaning, hygiene, and sanitation solutions, sent six representatives. There were five from the Watertown Unified School District and four each from Associated Bank, Marquart Memorial Manor, and Riverwood Assisted Living. Watertown Mayor Ron Krueger was also among those attending.
Director of Development and Alumni Relations John Davis welcomed the guests, then offered a prayer of thanks for the breakfast buffet that followed.
The program began with Athletic Director Rob Thompson describing community service projects by Maranatha’s teams, including free youth basketball clinics and volunteering to pick up roadside trash. Music Department Chair Dr. David Ledgerwood previewed some upcoming productions and concerts, including Running in the Red, the fall play, and noted the value of advertising space in the playbill for those productions. Business Department Chair Dr. Corey Pfaffe described new majors in Accounting and Sport Management and stressed the value of internships to both students and employers.
Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness Matt Davis gave statistics from standardized achievement tests that demonstrated the significant progress made by most Maranatha students during their four years on campus. Maranatha President Dr. Marty Marriott concluded with closing remarks and prayer.
