Catalog Description: Examines the historical foundations of Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries. Students will study the logical foundation of geometric proofs, including indirect proofs. The course will also discuss the philosophical implications of non-Euclidean geometry.

  • Clark Kimberling, Geometry in Action, bundled with Geometer’s Sketchpad student edition. This bundle must be order through the publisher, Key College Publishing.                                
    • ISBN 978-1-93191419-2.
      • The phone number to call for this is 888 877 7240. 
  • You may also order the book Geometry in Action (978-1-931914-02-4) and sketchpad (student edition 978-1-55953-528-1 or full edition ) 4th edition separately. The book should also have a cd(not Geometer’s Sketchpad) with assignments in it. Either way should be less than $100 for both the textbook and Geometer’s Sketchpad.

  • Use inductive reasoning to make conjectures and use deductive reasoning.
  • Learn and understand Euclid¹s postulates and mathematical system.
  • Use Analytical Geometry as a tool to solve geometric problems, and develop a realization of the relationships between Algebra and Geometry.
  • Expand your geometric reasoning to other geometries.
  • Understand the basic concepts of transformational geometry.
  • Understand symmetries using Sketchpad.
