Soccer Teams Announce Overseas Mission Trip
Millions of people from all over the world will be traveling to Germany this summer for the 2006 FIFA World Cup—and members of Maranatha’s Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams will be there too! They may not get to a World Cup match, but they will spend two weeks in Germany helping local churches to get the Word out to many people. From May 28 to June 12, the Maranatha soccer players will distribute gospel literature, witness to people, and be involved in soccer clinics and exhibition matches against local club teams.
“The World Cup is the most well-known sporting event in the entire world,” says Coach Joshua Caucutt. “The churches are planning to take advantage of the fervor surrounding the World Cup by using college soccer players to increase contacts in their communities.”
When the Maranatha team arrives in Germany, they will have four days of training to learn about culture and how to witness to unsaved people about Christ. All the contacts they make will be followed up by the local churches. You can be involved in what God is doing by praying for the team—for funding (they each need to raise $2,500!), for safety, and for success in ministry.
Germany 2006 is the trip of a lifetime for most of the team members. “It is farther than most of us have traveled, more money than most of us have ever raised, and a greater challenge to trust in God than most of us have experienced,” says Coach Caucutt. “We look forward to seeing souls saved and the hand of God shown strong in providing for this trip.”

April Update
A big thank you to all who have donated to the Germany Mission’s Trip! We have raised almost 50% of the needed funds for our Medals for Glory effort.
We have had the opportunity to interact with the churches in Erlangen and Ingolstadt, and they are looking forward to our ministry. They have scheduled three matches against club teams in their areas for both teams. The teams will have many other ministry opportunities to share the gospel and to help the local churches in Germany.
On March 14, the team members assembled in DC 119 on the campus of Maranatha to meet with our Baptist Mid Mission’s representative, David Ferguson. Mr. Ferguson introduced the players to aspects of culture in Germany and also gave us our training materials for the trip. Each players was given a book on culture, When in Germany, Do as the Germans Do, and a book on sharing the gospel, Share Jesus Without Fear.
Please pray as we continue to prepare for this trip and to raise funds. The churches in Germany have communicated excitement about the effort and are looking forward to what will be accomplished for Christ. Many of the young people have raised what they will need; however, a few still need help. We are halfway to our goal and we are trusting God to move his people to help meet this need. Will you pray about a financial gift to our endeavor? | |

Did you know that what we call soccer in America is called football in Europe? In fact, FIFA, which sponsors the World Cup, stands for the Federation Internationale de Football Association. |
