Baptist Youth Mission

February 2010

Part of creating a good team in sports or ministry is to clearly identify a problem and then rally the team to tackle the problem.  The trick to making that happen often lies in the identification process.  Our lives and ministries are surrounded by countless challenges and problems. To clearly identify and then isolate a problem is a problem in itself.  When a church or ministry team fails in its calling to reach and keep (evangelize and disciple), it can often be traced back to the way in which we view ourselves in relation to the lost; in other words, our view and identification of the problem.

For the last 16 months, BYM has been seriously analyzing our hundreds of VBS and Teen revivals we have conducted over the last 22 years. Next month, on March 18th, we plan to share much of our findings at the NextStep Youth Strategy Seminar conducted at the Clayton Northcutt Retreat Center in Hillsdale, Wyoming.

If you and your team are dissatisfied  with your “reachkeep” results, this seminar is a must.  Life is too short and the calling is too great to continue to be less than effective.  Every ministry has the ability to form teams, identify problems and deliver the message of life.  Join us at this youth strategy seminar, and together as a team we will charge straight ahead toward the opportunity that lies before us.

Mr. Mike Holmes

Executive Director

October 2009

Hello Friend,

The Baptist Youth Mission (BYM) has just finished a great summer. A printed letter will be out next week. If you do not receive a printed copy and would like one, please reply to this email with your mailing address.

The letter has some very important announcements about the services we provide to local churches. We are going to have to make some uncomfortable but necessary changes. The letter was posted at www.bym.org on October 1st.

After 20 some years traveling, gleaning and learning from hundreds of churches, we have synthesized a great deal of vital and effective information. We are constantly being asked to come and consult, write a book or consolidate and present our findings. Many pastors and churches are anxious to learn effective methods and techniques. They are ready for some innovative, yet Biblically sound tactics and ideas.

This condensed, but certainly not completed information comes from the great generosity of our supporting churches and private donors. Without them we certainly would not have had the opportunities that have allowed us to minister and now educate others.

We also want to express gratitude to our sending church (Beacon Hill Baptist of Cheyenne, WY) for so faithfully supporting BYM and the new church plant in Sinclair, WY (Sinclair Baptist Church). The new church plant has been the testing and proving ground for so many of the concepts we have used in other churches over the years.

We feel a great responsibility as stewards to transfer as much of these learnings as possible. As you analyze your effectiveness in your community, perhaps, as a steward, you will find you are among the many churches that need to take the Next Step.

In the next few days you will receive an e-mail with more details.

Serving the Lord with Gladness,

Mike Holmes
Executive Director, BYM
Pastor, Sinclair Baptist Church

News and Events for the Friends of Baptist Youth Mission

Memorial Day is just around the corner. Make plans to attend the big picnic and special services here is Sinclair. Games begin at 10:00, the potluck style lunch is at 11:45 and the service at 1:30. This year's service focuses on the old time camp song. A special message will be followed by our annual evangelist commissioning service.  Grills and drinks will be provided by BYM.

Special Offering- BYM is taking a special offering to assist in the renovation of our front entryway. We have a total need of $7,400 of which we have about $2,600 already collected. Please help us  as we repair and renovate these important features of our building.

Golf Tournament- Calling all golfers!  Please come to Sinclair for The 2nd Annual Golf Classic.  Last year we had a great turnout of pastors and fulltime workers from 4 states. This year we are hoping to increase the attendance by opening it up to all friends of BYM.  That's right, If you a are golfer and would like to come to our tournament, you are hereby offically invited.  There will be plenty of prizes for golfers of all skills.  The putting contests will begin at 10:00 and the Shotgun Scramble will begin at 11:00 a.m. on June 14th.  There will be a luncheon and an awards ceremony at the Parco Inn following the tournament. The cost is $62 and includes 18 holes, a cart, lunch and plenty of prizes for all.  All the proceeds beyond our expenses will go toward the the Entryway Revovation Project.

Alaska this summer?  We have had a nice van donated but still need someone to drive it to Anchorage for us.  Please call soon if you are interested. 307-324-4800.

Touch Eternity....- Great things are happening in our administration and program offices, thanks to a generous gift given in memory of Elaine Woodrome of Ottawa, Kansas.  This summer we should finish the renovation these funds began, but the impact will go on for eternity.  New carpet will be going down next Monday in two areas and new windows and walls are on the way in June.  If you would like to make a donation in honor of a loved one please call Mike Holmes, Executive Director. A nice plaque will honor your loved one and you can do something that will touch eternity.
