William Licht was named Chair of Maranatha’s Education Department in June of 2009 following the retirement of Dr. Bruce Jackson after 22 years at Maranatha. Mr. Licht has earned two master’s degrees and is working toward his doctorate. He has taught history and education classes at Maranatha for 16 years, and was Humanities Department Chair as well as faculty representative to the NCAA. He has also been a member of several academic committees. "If my students only learn one thing from my classes, I hope they would learn to be excited about what they teach," Mr. Licht said. "Enthusiasm is contagious."

Remember your favorite teacher? At Maranatha, we believe in the teacher’s potential to make a positive difference in the life of a child. As a teacher, you have the opportunity to motivate, inspire, challenge, encourage, support, show patience, model forgiveness, and make a lasting impression on your students. As a Christian, you may be able to give godly direction at a time in life when students feel vulnerable, misunderstood, or uncertain.

Maranatha’s teacher education program is built on proven traditional methods and current classroom technology. In today’s competitive world, students need a competitive edge—they need a teacher who can teach them to read well, write clearly, and think critically. They need a teacher who is knowledgeable about current issues and can analyze them according to a Christian worldview. They also need a teacher who cares about where their students are going in life, one who is dedicated to challenging them to excel not only in the classroom but also in character. Maranatha will equip you to be a Christian role model in your students’ lives, no matter where you choose to teach. Imagine the difference one teacher can make. Imagine yourself making the difference.

Alumni Focus

A knee injury in the fall of 1987 forced Paul LaDuke to take a different view of God’s path for his life. Instead of teaching and coaching, he earned a master’s degree in Sports Medicine and became a Certified Athletic Trainer. LaDuke now works at the Lower Dauphin School District in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania. "Coach Jerry Terrill’s classes taught me the role of the athletic trainer and instill a great foundation of, and love for, exercise science," LaDuke said. "Thanks to his influence, I can now minister to the health needs of thousands of athletes."
