About Mr. Hockman

Debbi and I met at college and were married in 1992. We have been blessed with three children: Emilie,  Megann, and Nathan. We enjoy serving the Lord together at Calvary Baptist Church in Watertown. We have served in various capacities at Calvary including youth leaders, interim youth pastor, nursery directors, deacon, and working in the children ministries.  We enjoy spending time together as a family playing ball in the backyard, gardening, going on walks, traveling, and just being together.

What Mr. Hockman Loves about Teaching at Maranatha

I enjoy ministering to college age students. Teens have often been a part of my ministry opportunities and college teaching allows me to continue to minister to those just past their teen years. My goal is to help the students become lifelong learners of God’s Word. I am thankful to have a part in training students to go out and impact this world for Christ. Lord willing, the students will gain the necessary tools and heart for ministry that will serve them well wherever God leads them.

Mr. Hockman's Academic and Ministry Background

Upon graduation from Bob Jones with a B.A. In Bible, the Lord led my wife and me to Calvary Baptist Seminary in Lansdale, PA. The Lord used the professors and ministry experiences during my days in seminary to equip me with tools necessary to serve Him. The Lord allowed me to have experience in a couple of churches as a youth pastor during my time in seminary. Upon graduating with my Master of Divinity, I was hired by Calvary Baptist School in Lansdale as the Bible teacher and Athletic Director for the high school. After three years the Lord led my wife and me to minister at Maranatha. Since arriving at Maranatha, I have completed my Master of Theology through Calvary Baptist Seminary in Lansdale, PA.

Mr. Hockman's Classes

  • BIGK 211 Greek Syntax I – Develops how the parts of a sentence relate to one another. This class begins to develop the importance of Greek to the sermon process. It lays a foundations that is necessary to sermon preparation. It really helps a student become disciplined in his/her studies. This discipline and foundation lay the framework for a student that will carry him throughout ministry.
  • GNT 507 Greek Syntax I -- Graduate level course.
  • BIBI 424 Theology 4 – Focuses on the study of Angels and Eschatology. The study of angels is typically an area that students have not done much work in and it is fun to challenge them on whether their concepts are biblically based or based on tradition (e.g. “Does everyone have a guardian angel”). Eschatology is not just an area to study so we have all the detail of the future. This is an area of study that must impact our lives today.
  • BIBI 292 Daniel/Revelation  - This is a new course that I can’t wait to teach. This is designed for sophomores and will help the student understand the importance of these books to our lives today.
  • BIBI 108 New Testament Survey
