History: The development of a medical mission team is the most difficult of summer teams. The coordination of medical personnel, supplies, church planters, nurses, and government officials takes time and a spirit of flexibility. MBBC is pleased to have Operation Renewed Hope as its partner in this process. ORH is a non-profit, fundamental Christian organization that specializes in these outreaches.

Items Needed for Boot Camp: The medical teams will have a boot camp from May 2-4. If you have any of the following that could be borrowed for this event please contact Sue Munyon in the Bible Department Office at 3466.

  • Small dingy boat – rubber two man boat
  • Four life preservers
  • 2 x dry erase boards with easel
  • 6 x dry erase markers
  • 4 x Axes
  • 2 x Sledge hammers
  • 11, 10’ x 10’ opaque plastic tarps
  • 3 x shovels

Mission Statement of ORH:

  1. Provide the opportunity for all men and women to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is his death, burial and resurrection.
  2. Provide relief from physical and mental suffering to nations by: shipping medical, educational and non-food humanitarian supplies and equipment, building medical facilities, and operating short-term medical clinics in remote locations.
  3. Provide opportunities for medical professionals, laypersons, and teens to serve God through short-term and long-term missions.

Vital Statistics

  1. Ministry Tasks: The primary task will conducting remote clinics for natives in the various countries. Included in this task is the preaching of the gospel to local people.
  2. Students’ Qualifications: Priority will be given to those whose educational background is in the field of medicine. Nurses will function as assistants to doctors, dentists, and optometrists. Training in each of these fields will take place. Students must also go through a three day field test. This boot camp will teach the skills that are necessary for proper living and survival in remote locations.
  3. Supervision: Each college team will have a member of ORH and/or a MBBC faculty or staff member who will provide direct supervision.
  4. Timeframe (approximate): A May trip, a July trip, and a November trip. Each trip is ten days in duration
  5. Locations (tentative): Uganda, Guyana, Mexico, India
  6. Room and Board: Lodging and food is provided according to the demands of the trip. The cost of the trip covers both.
  7. Weekly Schedule: Students will work in the clinic for 12-14 hours per day. Time will also be spent at the evangelistic services.
  8. Transportation: The team will fly together, so no one has to go alone.
  9. Costs: Individual costs are approximately $2,200. This includes airfare, travel documents, in-service time, international health insurance and all other team expenses.
  10. Fund raising: Each college team will work together in raising funds via sending out support letters and other avenues that the school chooses. It is recommended that each team member send out a number of personal support letters to friends and family.
  11. Safety: The State Department and Center for Disease Control list recommended and required vaccines for each country. We will follow their recommendations. Safety for all other issues will be discussed as it relates to the trip.
  12. Team Preparation: All participants will be trained in three areas: cross-cultural communication and sensitivity, field medical work, and basic survival skills.
