The difference between national and regional accreditation is a subject that can be confusing for many, but one whose importance continues to be brought into focus.
Maranatha has been regionally accredited by the North Central Association of the Higher Learning Commission since 1993. This has enabled students to qualify for federal and state financial aid as well as ensuring that the origin of the degree will not be a factor when its graduates apply to law school, medical school, and other graduate schools for the professions.
Students from regionally accredited colleges can be confident that their academic credentials will not be called into question when they apply for either financial aid or graduate programs.
Accreditation also impacts current students and their ability to obtain financial aid. Maranatha students are eligible for all Wisconsin aid programs, including Wisconsin Tuition Grant, Academic Excellence Scholarship, Talent Incentive Program, Minority Retention Grant, Handicapped Student Grant, and Indian Student Grant.
Many of these programs are restricted to regionally accredited colleges. Associate Director of Financial Aid Bruce Roth said Maranatha students last year received $171,000 in Wisconsin Tuition Grants, with a typical range of $1,000 to $2,500 per student.
Maranatha students are also eligible for Federal Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, Plus Loans, and other federal and state financial aid programs
