Artisans in Brass

Maranatha music professor Dr. David Brown has contributed his talents to the group Artisans in Brass, whose debut CD is now available for sale.

Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs includes 14 songs, 11 of which were arranged by group members. The brass quintet selections also include voices of one, two, three, and four instruments and music from the last 1600s to mid-1900s.

Brown , who plays bass trombone, has spent 24 years in Christian education. He conducts Maranatha’s symphony orchestra and teaches a wide range of classes and private lessons. He is joined by Dr. Philip Golson (tuba) from Clearwater Christian College; Dr. Richard Nichols (horn) of SoundForth Music in Greenville, S.C.; Dr. George Dougherty (trumpet) of Faith Baptist Bible College; and custom brass instrument maker Fred Powell (trumpet) of Chicago.

The group’s history dates to 2001, when Dougherty first contacted Nichols about the possibility of forming a brass quintet. Artisans in Brass maintains a website, artisansinbrass.com, which includes more information about the group and its music.

The playlist includes "Lead On, O King Eternal," "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name," "Channels Only," "My Faith has Found a Resting Place," "The Lord's My Shepherd,", "Heavenly Sunlight," "Holy, Holy, Holy," and seven other songs.

CDs can be purchased in person at the Maranatha bookstore or from Dr. Brown. They are also available online by emailing contact information to info@artisansinbrass.com. The cost for mail-order CDs is $16.95 plus $2.95 for shipping and handling.
