Athletics Department Statement of Philosophy

As you browse through our website, speak with our coaches, or participate in an athletic contest, you will find Maranatha Baptist Bible College Intercollegiate Athletics to be completely dedicated to the overall development of the student-athlete.

Maranatha Baptist Bible College has a rich history within its athletic program. Our student-athletes, teams, and coaches have received recognition in our NCAA DIII conference as well as in the NCCAA DII at both regional and national levels. In addition, many of our student-athletes are annually awarded for their academic, fine arts, and community achievements.

At Maranatha Baptist Bible College, we firmly believe that intercollegiate athletics should promote the character development of participants, enhance the integrity of higher education, provide the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, and promote service and civility in our local churches and society as a whole. At the heart of these goals is I Peter 3:15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

Toward these ends, we strive to adhere to our fundamental core values: fidelity, learning, integrity, charity, leadership, unity, balance, family, and excellence. Paramount to the athletic experience is for the student-athlete to learn how to overcome disappointment, loss, or defeat, as well as how to win or accept recognition and reward with Christian grace and humility. Regardless of the outcome of any athletic contest, first and foremost is our desire to please and honor the Lord Jesus Christ in our endeavors.

Student-athletes, faculty, and staff at Maranatha Baptist Bible College are always expected to operate with the principles of sportsmanship and ethical conduct in mind. We value our affiliations with the NCAA and NCCAA and subscribe to the rules and principles outlined by these associations in the administration of our athletic programs.

We also value our affiliation with our athletic conference, the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC). The NAC is an association of select institutions dedicated to the sponsorship of NCAA Division III intercollegiate competition in a broad spectrum of sports. Member institutions subscribe to shared values and evidence commitment to academic excellence, equal opportunity, sportsmanship, and fair play.

The Maranatha Baptist Bible College athletic department insists upon, applauds, and encourages sportsmanship, ethical conduct, fair play, and respect of its opponents and game officials by coaches, staff, student-athletes, and fans in every phase of intercollegiate competition.

Crusader Athletics Code of Conduct

It is a privilege to compete in intercollegiate athletics and to represent one’s team and institution in a positive manner. Student-athletes should demonstrate respect on and off the field for teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and fans. Student-athletes should be mindful that behavior represents not only themselves, but their teammates, fellow student-athletes, coaches, staff, faculty, administration, and, most importantly, the Lord Jesus Christ. Student-athletes should strive to combine their passion and competitiveness during competition with sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Such conduct demonstrates an understanding of the letter of the rules as well as the spirit of the rules.

Maranatha Baptist Bible College/NCAA/NCCAA/NAC Sportsmanship Statement

The NCAA, Maranatha Baptist Bible College, and the Northern Athletics Conference promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner.
