Maranatha provides a Graduate Assistant program for a limited number of seminary students.

The Graduate Assistant program has been designed to provide compensation to enable a seminary student to complete a M.A. or M. Div. degree without incurring additional debt.

Provisions:

  • The Graduate Assistant (GA) program provides a credit for tuition, comprehensive fee, and the room & board costs. Graduate Assistants not living in a dormitory will receive a taxable housing stipend equivalent to current room costs. Noon meals will be provided Monday through Friday during meal plan periods (August 19-May 12, with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring breaks). All other fees are the responsibility of the student (i.e. textbooks, graduation, etc.). At the end of the course of study, it is expected that the Graduate Assistant will have no financial obligation to Maranatha Baptist Seminary.
  • GA placement is determined by the Assistant to the President in conjunction with the Dean of the Seminary.
  • Graduate Assistants are considered full-time seminary students; as such, Graduate Assistants are not eligible for most employee benefits, but will be included in the employee discount offerings of the bookstore (usually 20%). No other MBBC tuition discounting is offered to Graduate Assistants.
  • A period of two weeks (three weeks for 12-mo GA) will be guaranteed as an “unscheduled” work period to allow for time away from campus.
  • Further provisions are dependent upon program enrollment and position appointments. See below for details.

Participation Requirements:

  • Good work is expected from a Graduate Assistant in his work assignment and in his seminary study. Graduate Assistants must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. If the work of a Graduate Assistant is unsatisfactory, the seminary may terminate the Graduate Assistantship at the end of any semester.
  • Graduate Assistants may not work outside their assigned duties nor may they work more than their assigned hours without prior approval from the Assistant to the President and the Dean of the Seminary.
  • Graduate Assistants must coordinate requests for unpaid time off with his/her supervisor.
