Pelikan, Jaroslav. The Christian Tradition: A History of the Development of Doctrine, Vol. 5: Christian Doctrine and Modern Culture (since 1700). Chicago: University of Chicago, 1971.
This is a substantial history of doctrine. Beware of Pelikan’s liberal approach. He accepts the concept that doctrine developed in the church and therefore is frequently friendly to the “heretics.”
