Consequence Levels

The following chart shows levels of corrective actions for the accumulation of demerits.
  • Violation of any of the levels of consequences will result in an extension of the restriction or other disciplinary action.
  • The Discipline Committee will meet as necessary to investigate and determine appropriate penalties for infractions.

  • Will be required to move on campus the following semester, unless living with parents.

  • May not serve as an officer of a student group or as captain of an athletic team for the remainder of the semester.
  • May or may not participate in extra-curricular activities for 7 days.

Level III

70 on DP

On campus student-meets with Dorm Supervisor and Dean.
  • $75 fine [EC 5/11].
  • Must attend church in town.
  • May be required to surrender vehicle keys.
Off campus student-meets with a Dean.
  • $75 fine.
  • Move on campus immediately, unless living with parents.
Both on/off campus students
  • All of the penalties for Level II.
  • Restricted for 10 days from:
    • extra-curricular activities during the restriction [SL 11/08].
    • gym or FCG use.
    • intramurals.

Level IV

125

85 on DP

On campus student-meets with Dorm Supervisor and Dean.
  • $100 fine [EC 5/11].
Off campus—Meet with a Dean.
  • $100 fine.
Both on/off campus students
  • All of the penalties for Levels II & III.
  • Must attend church in town.
  • Disciplinary Probation restrictions for rest of semester and the following semester.
  • May lose institutional scholarship.

Level V

150

100 on DP

  • Subject to suspension or expulsion.
  • Must meet with the Discipline Committee.
  • If allowed to stay, subject to all Level IV consequences for rest of semester and $125 fine [EC 5/11].
  • Must appeal to Admissions Committee to be allowed to re-enroll.
  • If allowed to return, will do so on Disciplinary Probation.

Social Campusing

Students who violate social or dating policies may be separated from each other for a designated period of time and may have their communication with each other restricted (phone calls, notes, emails, text-messaging, etc.).

Disciplinary Probation (DP)

  • A student who accumulates 125 or more demerits in a semester will be subject to Disciplinary Probation for that semester and the subsequent semester.
  • A student who has been asked to withdraw, has been suspended, or expelled, will be on Disciplinary Probation when they return.
  • Upon enrollment at Maranatha, a student who has been expelled from another institution will be on Disciplinary Probation for their first semester here.
  • A student on Disciplinary Probation may expect routine meetings with a Dean for accountability and encouragement.

Disciplinary Probation Consequences

  • A student on Disciplinary Probation is limited to one Epass per week.
  • Students on Disciplinary Probation are required to attend church services in town unless special permission is secured to do otherwise.
  • Students on Disciplinary Probation are not eligible for any special awards or recognitions, for any leadership positions (student office, prayer leader, etc.), or for any Maranatha scholarships. A student who is on the second consecutive semester on Disciplinary Probation may not participate in any extracurricular activity.
  • When a student begins a semester on Disciplinary Probation, they are subject to expulsion or suspension at 100 demerits.
  • Any student who ends a semester with 85 or more demerits while on Disciplinary Probation will return under Disciplinary Probation during his or her next semester at Maranatha.
  • Any infraction of 50 or more demerits while on Disciplinary Probation may result in Disciplinary Probation for the following semester.

Expulsion

A student may be expelled or suspended from Maranatha for:

Expulsion Consequences

  • A student who has been expelled must make arrangements for immediate departure and for removing all personal belongings from the College.
  • The student may be required to be in the company of supervisory personnel until leaving the campus.
  • An expelled student suffers the loss of the semester in which he or she was expelled and must sit out at least the following semester.
  • Expelled students are generally permitted to take Maranatha Online classes. If the student isn’t enrolled online, then their MBBC email and student account will be deactivated.
  • A student who has been expelled must have administrative approval to visit Maranatha’s campus.
  • Re-enrollment is based on significant change and positive growth in the student’s personal and spiritual life.
  • A student readmitted after having been expelled returns under Disciplinary Probation.
  • All uncompleted classes will receive a failing grade.
  • Institutional scholarships will be forfeited.
  • An expelled student who desires to re-enroll at Maranatha must follow the procedure for readmission of students.

Suspension

Students who accumulate 150 or more demerits in a semester (100 or more if on disciplinary probation) may be suspended for at least one semester.
  • Suspension will apply in cases where the demerits are accumulated solely or primarily for minor infractions.
  • A student who has accumulated this many demerits may be allowed to complete the current semester. The student is subject to immediate expulsion from Maranatha, however, for continued or serious violation of school policy or standards.

Suspension Consequences

  • The student’s record will indicate this action as Suspension for Disciplinary Reasons.
  • A student who is readmitted to Maranatha following a suspension returns under Disciplinary Probation.
  • A suspended student who desires to re-enroll at Maranatha must follow the procedure for readmission of students.

Required Withdrawal

A student may be required to withdraw for disciplinary issues, for demonstrating a lack of commitment to fulfilling his/her academic requirements, or for not fulfilling other student responsibilities. The student may be required to serve Disciplinary Probation when they return.
